The voluntary organisation JAI NANDA DEVI SWAROJGAR SHIKSHAN SANSTHAN (JANDESH) was established in 1992 following an in-depth discussion and heart churning. But, legally its it was registered under the Society Act 21, 1860 in 1996. The organisation is a voluntary non-governmental organisation.
Its strategy keeps changing after its legal establishment. effective and qualitative changes incrementally and slowly took place in its programmes and they were run according to the needs and demands of rural people. The organisation undertook the aim to bringing a societal change by struggle while working on different issues on many dimensions pertaining to the development in the region. The organisation has now become just a coordinator and pathfinder in local villages.

(Urgam), District Chamoli, Uttarakhand affiliated to the Nehru Yuva
Kendra, Chamoli has been rendering commendable services to the society in
general and towards the youth development particularly in the Chamoli
district of Uttarakhand. The Youth Club has done excellent work under the
guidance of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Chamoli in the field of Self Help Groups
formation, Environment enrichment, Promotion of Agro-based Industries,
Improvement of Educational quality and employment generation. Through
constructive channelisation of youth energy, this club has ben
instrumental in the formation of 65 SHGs majority of whose members are
women. The Youth Club has achieved remarkable success in providing
self-employment opportunities to 177 BPL families through dairy and
vegetable production. The club has undertaken extensive awareness
campaigns on female adolescent health care and formed 51 Bal Panchayats in
60 and earned Rs. 2,70,000/-. 215 Compost pits, 56 water tanks (Ferro
Cement Tank) and 10 Poly Houses were built in 08 villages of Joshimath
block. 20 Environment Educational Centers were opened for Quality
Education in which 172 Children are studying. 5121 Saplings of Local Oak
and Kachnar were planted. Further, the club has initiated extensive
programmes on small savings among women. Above all this club with its own
initiative has mobilized Rs.55,95,862.86 and incurred Rs.48,99,499.76 for
community welfare programmes and activities during 2006-07.
In recognition of its outstanding contribution towards community
welfare and national development through the mobilization and involvement
of local youth, the National Selection Committee has
decided to award the
first prize of Rs One lakh to Jai Nanda Devi Swarojgar Shikshan Sansthan (JANDESH) Kalp Kshertra, Bharki (Urgam), District Chamoli, Uttarakhand.
